Having Fun

Hey, thought I would give a quick update on what’s going on. I’m having lots of fun at work. I’ve got some awesome bosses. They are real cool and down to earth. Lately I’m doing a lot of documentation, but I’m pretty much almost done so I just need to get it translated to French (sure I am French but I’m not to good when it comes to translating).

Today there was some big orientation meeting for all the students employed at Public Works. It was pretty interesting. I got to listen to some computer security guy lash out at the students (threatening to use Trojan Horse Viruses on them) and trying to scare them into doing anything. Big chances are this guy was a big outcast when he was growing up. And I’m sure now he’s trying to be all and mighty now that he has a position that “matters” (according to his words).

Also after the orientation thing there was a “student forum” set up where a bunch of us students got together with the “student champion” (how cool would it be to have that title… basically its some guy with an other job that does this for fun to lead the students and such) at some pub. We socialized and talked about fun activities we could all do during our 4 month stay (for most of us). Also I met some pretty cool people.

Any ways that’s about all I’ve got to say. I will be posting up some new pictures of where I work some time soon. I’ve got them, I’m just a little lazy to put them on my PC that’s all.

The Apartment

Well it’s been a week now and I realized I should talk about my apartment. Its location is pretty sweet. I’m real close to anything really. About 50 minute walk to work. We usually take the bus in the morning but walk back after work.

We got to talk to the neighbors the other day after some joker decided to pull the fire alarm. They seem like some nice people. It’s mostly quiet around here (you can usually hear if someone’s walking by the apartment building outside). So I guess Val really did her homework on this one.

There’s a bit of a weird smell when you walk in but I’m guessing it’s because of the cats that use to live here. I’m hoping the smell goes away soon. Other then that the only thing that isn’t all that fun about the apartment would be the kitchen. It’s small, it’s old… eww.

Well I got a diagram of the apartment made with Visio and a bunch of photos to accompany it posted up in my photos section (my MSN Space) so feel free to check them out if you want to see what it looks like. The diagram isn’t totally accurate but it helps place yourself in the photos.

First Day

Well the first day at the job was good. I didn’t really do much productive stuff today, but what do you expect, it’s the first day. It was more something along the lines of a preparation day. I installed all the software that I needed to do my job and filled forms for accounts I needed for certain things (since I guess we don’t have tech support to do those things for us).

Other then that, I got the “Security Access Pass” I needed. And for the rest of the day one of my bosses introduced me to the stuff they were doing (real vaguely). I guess tomorrow they plan on showing me lots more. Also he got me to just look around at the code try and figure out the syntax of things.

I don’t think I can really tell much more. I know they want me to keep certain things confidential (obviously), but I’m not really sure what fits in that category so I just say anything else. Since what I told you isn’t really useful, I think I’m safe for now :P.

All I know is I have lots to learn and they plan on teaching me quite a few things, so I’m really looking forward to getting to it.

The Rideau Canal

I saw the funniest thing today. It happened like 45 minutes ago. We were walking along side of The Rideau Canal and on the other side of it there were about 5 people biking along it to. This one girl was getting pretty close to the edge but I didn’t think much of it since the average person knows how to steer away such a hazard. Apparently this person didn’t. She biked right into the water lol. Unfortunately I didn’t get the camera out quick enough, since I was to busy laughing my ass off, but I did manage to get a picture of her and her friends after they pulled her out.

That sure made my day though. Sure I feel bad for her since she lost her bike in the water, but she was also laughing, probably more out of embarrassment, but you can still see she took it relatively well.

(The Picture is in My Pictures Sections (My MSN Space) because Blogger is bad .. I don't know but its just not working.

The Arrival

Well after a 12 hour ride, we are finally here :O. We got here around midnight last night and got to meet Brad. Brad is one of the Law students we are renting the apartment from. He’s a real nice guy from Halifax with 2 awesome cats. He left this morning right before my dad got back from the hotel to unload the van.

We didn’t do much up to now, we unpacked and after that we headed out to the Rideau Center. I got my cell phone activated. We also found a bank for Val to do financial activities and looked around a bit.

After that we did a bit of grocery shopping and passed out upon arrival.

I didn’t post any pictures yet since they are still in my camera and I don’t feel like doing all that stuff right away. I might as well wait till I have more pictures.

So come back later for updates. I’ve got more exploring to do :D laterz

It's Almost Time!

Five days left, and then I’m off! :D … Well four in about 20 minutes. Any ways I was bored and figured I could add some updates.

Exams are almost done. I only have one left to take (the 26th, Software Engineering) and its open book so I’m not getting all stressed out about it. I’m reading stuff making sure I know the general stuff real well and indexing important stuff. It should go well.

The 26th is also the day my sister (Céline) moves down (She will be taking over the apartment while I’m in Ottawa), so I’m going to get to see her and my mom :D. That’s probably the day I’m going to buy a camera to, so I’ll be able to post some new pictures soon.

We are leaving for Ottawa the afternoon of Friday the 28th, so it’s going to be hectic after my last exam with all the packing and drinking. All should go as planned though so its looking like its going to be fun.
